Logistics under control

The LOGISTIC Navigator, as an optional component of the PAVE Navigator, supports the site manager during planning: it assists in determining the tonnage and the required number of trucks as well as their cycle times. The geometry of the structure, the asphalt mix, the paving speed and the performance and distance of the selected asphalt mixing plants are taken into account.

The LOGISTIC Navigator’s support for asphalt paving is as dynamic as the construction site itself. A changed paving situation, such as the variable working width or other unplanned additional or reduced consumption of asphalt mix, is automatically adjusted for the remaining requirements of the construction project and its completion time. Delays in accessing the construction site due to traffic disruptions or driver breaks are also taken into account.

The first possible measuring point of an asphalt construction site is in the asphalt mixing plant. At the time the asphalt mix is handed over to asphalt logistics, the respective truck, tonnage, temperature and time are recorded and written to the VÖLKEL Cloud. From this point on, the paving foreman has an overview of the asphalt supply via a tablet PC, which is also connected to the VÖLKEL Cloud, and can control the paving team and the paving speed accordingly. Each truck can be equipped with a GNSS tracker to record any delays during transportation.

When the truck unloads the asphalt into the hopper of the feeder or Paver, a special sensor measures the temperature in the downward flow of asphalt. This type of measurement allows conclusions to be drawn about the average temperature and the core temperature of the asphalt mix. When the handover at the construction site is complete, the truck is in the return flow. This enables the mixing foreman in the asphalt mixing plant to calculate and prepare the exact quantity still to be kept in stock together with the calculated residual quantity.
