Speed governor with diesel speed compensation
HCB-MEC (Engine speed controller with Engine Compensation)

The speed governor with diesel speed compensation is a further development of the simple speed governor and has been developed for a highly constant hydraulic motor speed with a highly fluctuating drive motor speed.

Inputs and outputs:

  • Switching inputs for release, parameter set switching and for fixed values
  • Frequency inputs for the actual values of diesel speed and hydraulic motor
  • Analog inputs for the setpoint specification of the hydraulic motor
  • Proportional output with current feedback measurement for the hydraulic pump
  • Status outputs for error management
  • Voltage output for displaying the hydraulic motor speed
  • Frequency output for displaying the hydraulic motor speed
  • CAN interface for alternative speed measurement of the diesel engine via SAE J1939

Detailed information

The speed governor with diesel speed compensation is a further development of the simple speed governor and has been developed for a highly constant hydraulic motor speed with a highly fluctuating drive motor speed.

The compensation of the disturbance variable diesel speed takes effect before the speed governor so that it is relieved. The set speed of the hydraulic motor is specified in analog form (e.g. using a setpoint generator or higher-level controller) or digitally using a fixed value.

The standard hardware for this control system is the HCB controller. It controls a pump unidirectionally. The diesel engine can be connected via CAN bus (SAE J1939), terminal W or solenoid pickup. If it is connected via CAN bus, diesel engine errors can also be displayed via a switching output. If the MEC is to be integrated into a machine control system, it can easily be ported to another Völkel hardware platform.

The MEC is used on machines where highly constant control of the hydraulic motor speed is required. These are, for example, vacuum turbines in sweepers. A fluctuating fan speed would result in a sawing noise that would not be acceptable in cities. In addition, the efficiency of the fan is best at the rated speed. Another application is truck-based power generators (fire department, THW, etc.), where a fluctuating generator speed would result in a fluctuating frequency.
